The Apprentice
Based upon the popular television series The Apprentice, this one day programme encourages young people to listen critically, to understand and analyse ideas and information. The day takes the participants out of their comfort zone, grouped in unfamiliar teams they are tasked with researching and promoting a toy for the UK leisure market. Each team member plays a specific role: project manager; researcher; creative director; creative designer and two pitchers. They must be prepared to ask questions to acquire details, seek explanations and to clarify information for their use. By the afternoon the teams will have prepared and delivered a pitch to the board and will await the fatal words “you’re fired” or “you’re hired”.
Learning Outcomes: to gather information about their product; work as a team to complete the task; to speak audibly to convey opinion; to use persuasive language to secure position; to respond appropriately to others taking into account what they say; deal politely with opposing points of view and discuss; to create and sustain a role; to present to a different audience for a different purpose; listen to other presentations and review the work of others.
Cost: 30 pupils £400 per day
